Courts are married to law, but they sleep with the rich and powerful

Courts are married to law, but they sleep with the rich and powerful. This country is for the elite. Yesterday's verdict of LHC is yet another manifestation of the reality of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which is neither an Islamic state nor a democratic republic rather a kleptocracy. If you are powerful, you can have a respite of sentence on a stamp paper of 50 rupees, on a weekend, but in case you are not from the gentry, you cannot get justice even two three years after your death, rotting your whole life in incarceration. Courts are blind if you are a police lady, standing in the court of law, being thrashed by the "LAW MAFIA" or a poor lady, once again standing in the court of law, being dragged by the same mafia, or a father of two, picking up your kids from school, in front of court, being slapped by the same people.
Imran Khan, whom I use to loathe, is a doughty man. He is known for going against the tide. He got the throne by building a public sentiment against the powerful elite of the country. In this course, he compromised everything. His best people left in his pursuit of power. He divorced his morals, welcomed feudal in his party, sought help from undemocratic forces, provoked religious sentiments and what not. All of this is acceptable because he was successful in revealing the unholy alliance of the so called left and right, religious and liberal political forces, just for the sake of power.
Now when HC's verdict is calamitous to his mantra of no "NRO", it is the perfect time for him to come forward as a popular mass leader rather than a sporting hero and a fashion idol who happened to be a circumstantial political leader in retaliation to the corruption and bad governance of previous governments. He should step down from the office, dissolve assemblies, announce new elections, thrash his opportunist companions, bring forward his old companions and restitute his ideology. Now with Zardari in jail, Nawaz going abroad and Molana with a failed political sit-in, no one is there to contest Imran because Bilawal is still a juvenile facing serious governance issues under his rule in Sindh, Shahbaz was although a good administrator but he failed drastically just a year back and Maryam, a possible contender, is serving a sentence in jail. He can come with a clear majority and bring about reforms in this system, given a restitution in his attitude and ideology. OTHERWISE no one remembers crestfallen Mir Zaffarullah Jamali; no matter how straightforward and simple he is, but Bhutto is still alive just because he stood against the establishment of his time.
